- O'Henry's real name is William Sydney Porter.
- He was born in Greensboro, North Carolina
- O'Henry was an avid reader and at the age of fifteen left school to work at a drug store to make money.
- O'Henry's mom died when he was three years old.
- His dad was at work most of the time so he was taken care of by his grandmother and aunt.
- 1987 he was convicted of embezzling money.
- while in jail he started writing short stories.
- In 1901 he was released from jail.
- The same year he also changed his name from Porter to O'henry.
- The same year he moved to New York.
- He wrote a story a week for th New York Word.
- From December 1903 to January 1906 he wrote all of his shaort stories that are popular today.
- After this he married a women named Sara Lindsy Coleman, a year after they seperated.
- O'Henry died on june 5 1910 from cirrhosis of the liver.
